Escape the bustle of the city and immerse yourself in the beauty and traditions of Pakuri, an Indigenous Lokono (Arawak) village along the Mahaica River.
Upon arrival, be greeted by your friendly local guide and set off on a leisurely walk through the community. Along the way, learn about seasonal fruits and medicinal plants, sampling fresh flavors straight from nature.
Stop at the village craft shop, where handmade jewelry, baskets, and carvings are on display — a chance to support local artisans (purchases are optional) From here, make your way to the charming Matapee Cabins, where a delicious traditional lunch awaits. Sip on fresh coconut water while enjoying a live performance by the talented musician behind the famous “Matapee” song and other beloved tunes.
After lunch, try your hand at archery and experience the cassava bread making process, a staple of Indigenous culinary heritage. Continue to Julian’s farm for a short walk among cultivated crops and local farming traditions.
The afternoon takes you to the tranquil Mahaica River, where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the cool blackwater or simply relax in a hammock, surrounded by the sounds of nature.
As the sun dips lower, bid farewell to the warm and welcoming community of Pakuri and journey back to Georgetown – your heart full of cultural memories, music, and the gentle rhythm of village life.

This is the best tour on the east coast! It was amazing how many places we visited and what great memories we made!

This was not our first time going to here. It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
